5 awkward interview questions for Elle!

Posted by James Simms on November 23, 2018

We like to think our interview process is quite friendly and we try to avoid many of the awkward interview clichés. But I thought I would ask Elle, out new languages teacher, some of those nasty interview questions just for laughs. Here's what she had to say:

Question 1: If you had a theme song, what would it be?
A popular theme song at home at the moment is the Paw Patrol one. This is made worse by the fact that unfortunately, Alexa can now understand our 3 year old's demands to play either this or the Peppa Pig theme tune! So it is a regular occurrence to hear such tunes blasting out of the kitchen and to see our daughter "dancing" wildly around the kitchen, or if our son has been granted access by his little sister, then it would be the Match of the Day theme tune playing loudly, whilst we witness a dramatic reenactment of England's 6-1 win over Panama from the men's World Cup of 2018! So, I suppose a mishmash of both of these would sum up life at home pretty well right now!!

Question 2: If you were superhuman, what would be your power?
Ever since I was little I have always wished I could teleport (does that even count as a superpower?!) and now that my siblings all live scattered around the globe, it is something I long for even more. I love the idea of spontaneously deciding I want to pop by my brother or sister's house, and next thing I know, I'm sat beside them, a cup of tea in hand on their sofa in Singapore or Oslo.

Question 3: Would you rather fight 1 horse sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
Well, I have a slightly unusual fear of goose-like animals for which I blame my mum! As we grew up on a farm in rural France, as a warning to us to keep safe around all animals, my mother used to tell the story of her friend who had her arm broken by a goose. Needless to say, this has stayed with me and spread to all animals of this genre, so quite frankly the idea of a horse-sized duck is nothing short of terrifying! So let's go with 100 duck-sized horses, which sounds really quite cute, to be honest!

Question 4: If you were a brand, what would be your motto?
I suppose with my work hat on, I really should say "Vorsprung durch technik" as advancement through technology is exactly what we are working towards here at The Everlearner. However, a little piece of me is desperate to say "Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline"!!

Question 5: What do you think of garden gnomes?
I can't say I have ever spent much of my time thinking about garden gnomes! It's not something I have ever seen and thought "wow, I really wish I had one of those in my garden". In fact, it's more likely that I thought "I bet someone gave them that as a gift and it felt too awkward to say they don't like it"!. On that note, I'm thinking a garden gnome would make an ideal not-so-secret Santa gift for Mike this year, as a thank you for making me do this!!
